M&S has begun a countrywide quest to find its next designer by introducing an upcoming competitive TV show.
The ITV program, set to premiere in the Autumn, will showcase the entire search process as 10 contestants vie for an in-house junior designer position at the fashion retailer.
Spanning six episodes, the participants will face various challenges that assess their design, problem-solving, commercial, and collaborative skills.
M&S mentioned that each challenge would mirror its design and product development process, from gathering insights and spotting key product trends to creating and refining original products.
The company expressed interest in individuals with creativity, a willingness to learn, and a passion for design, emphasizing that a formal fashion qualification or training is not a prerequisite.
The contestants will operate from a specially constructed design studio and will be evaluated by a panel of M&S senior executives, together with a roster of celebrity guests and designers, with hosts AJ Odudu and Vernon Kay.
M&S’ Marketing Director for Clothing and Home, Anna Braithwaite, stated: “The UK possesses some of the finest emerging design talent globally, and we’re eager to meet these talents.
“We are seeking the next wave of designers who can contribute to our mission to enhance M&S’ fashion reputation and create original products that captivate not only our current audience but also draw in those who may not have considered us before.
“Knowing how our customers enjoyed the peek behind the scenes during Christmas delivery, we are thrilled to unveil, for the first time, the inner workings of our Clothing & Home design process through this exciting new show format.
“It’s going to be dynamic, creative, and enjoyable – and for the victor, a rare chance to collaborate with some of the industry’s finest to develop collections that will be embraced by thousands.”
