City breaks are a great way to visit new areas of the UK and the popularity of Bristol as a destination has been growing in recent years. This vibrant city has plenty to offer to fill a weekend away – here are the must-see sights and the places you can’t afford to miss.

    Clifton

Clifton is best known for its suspension bridge, designed by Isambard Kingdom Brunel. This feat of engineering has been attracting tourists to the area for generations, but it is increasingly appealing to a younger set revelling in the bars and cafés that continue to pop up. The rainbow rows of colourful houses are Instagramable and perfect for anyone looking for a funky backdrop to an amateur photoshoot. Just ensure you are respectful of residents and you will be made to feel welcome in the area.

    Foodie Culture

Bristol is gaining a reputation as a destination for food lovers, with cuisine from all around the world available. Eating out is a delight with flavours from around the globe to explore, but if you’ve had a busy day, nothing beats the best Indian takeaway in Bristol. With eat in and takeaway options, whether you want to relax at your accommodation or enjoy the ambiance of the restaurant, the food is guaranteed to leave you with a smile on your face.

    Street Art

As the home of Britain’s most famous street artist Banksy, Bristol has a wealth of graffiti and street art to explore. Walking tours are available but it is easy to find some of the well-known pieces with nothing more than a map on your phone. The Mild Mild West, one of the artist’s earlier pieces, can be found near the O2 academy on Stokes Croft (amongst other fantastic street art, some of which has been commissioned by local businesses) while The Grim Reaper, once on the side of floating nightclub Thekla, can now be found at the M-Shed Museum.

    Nightlife

Bristol has a buzzing scene with clubs and live music venues ensuring you can party into the night if you wish. There is a wealth of late bars in the city centre which attract a fashionable crowd and are easily accessible wherever in the city you are staying. Comedy Cave is a popular choice for anyone needing a good laugh and is reasonably priced – a great place to see the latest upcoming comedians.

    History and Culture

Bristol is a historic city which attracts a young crowd due to the universities but there is plenty of culture for people of all ages to enjoy. From the cathedral to the harbour, Brunel’s SS Great Britain, and the Lord Mayor’s Chapel, if it is attractions you’re looking for, Bristol will not leave you wanting. Westonbirt Arboretum is a lovely botanical garden which is ideal for spending time in on a summer’s day and there are plenty of parks in the city for a gentle stroll or for young children to burn off excess energy.

A weekend in Bristol will leave you thirsty for more – which gives you a good excuse to return!
