Valentina Podshivalova: A Bold Visionary Shaping the Next Era of 3D Jewelry Design

From a childhood where colors were often out of reach, a designer has emerged with a visionary perspective that transforms limitations into limitless creativity. Her stunning 3D jewelry, now esteemed in the upper echelons of high fashion, gracefully melds artistic sophistication with state-of-the-art technology.

Presently, Valentina Podshivalova stands as a prominent figure in the exclusive realm of high jewelry, celebrated for her intricate designs and a style that seamlessly combines mechanical ingenuity with artistic impression.

Her journey from a small-town needlework aficionado to an internationally recognized designer reflects the complexity and grace of her creations. It is a path defined by unwavering commitment, innovative foresight, and a singular ambition to elevate art into exquisite, wearable pieces that narrate their own tales.

    An Early Passion

Valentina’s passion for design ignited through needlework—an art she pursued with seldom seen determination among children. “As a child, I loved needlework. I could spend the whole day without a break working on some creation–embroidery, crochet, sewing. Painting and drawing were also my favorite occupation,” she recalls.

“I did not attend art circles or schools, but creativity always accompanied me.” By high school, she had captured the Young Talents Award for an embroidery piece, signaling the inception of an artistic career that would span various mediums.

Her fascination with fine details and tactile designs naturally guided her to the world of jewelry design. After graduating from the Institute of Art and Design in her hometown of Izhevsk, Russia, she was drawn into the three-dimensional domain of high jewelry art during an internship at a jewelry firm.

Valentina began her professional path at Golden Orchideus, taking on the role of an apprentice 3D designer. Under the mentorship of maestro Shadrin Sergey Vasilievich—whose works have gained acclaim at prominent events like the JCK Las Vegas Show—Valentina meticulously developed her skills and refined her artistic voice.

    The Charm of Complexity

Following her initial success at Golden Orchideus, Valentina transitioned to Master Exclusive, where her position as a 3D designer evolved significantly. As the department’s chief designer, she not only sketched and executed new design concepts but also devised technically intricate pieces that fused art with mechanical functionality.

Among her notable creations at Master Exclusive was a beetle-shaped brooch with delicate, opening wings, and a flower brooch featuring a bud that opens to bloom. More than mere engineering marvels, her works were complex, multi-layered artworks merging aesthetic beauty with utilitarian design.

Her dedication to crafting exclusive jewelry featuring intricate mechanisms garnered widespread acclaim. Valentina’s signature style received recognition at international jewelry competitions.

    Embracing Independence: A Pandemic Transformation

Like many, Valentina experienced the pandemic as a pivotal moment. After years in design houses, she opted to pursue independence. “It was challenging to return to office work, and I decided to explore self-employment,” she shares.

Initially, she designed for jewelers across Switzerland, Italy, France, and even in the U.S. and China. However, soon she desired greater creative freedom and started producing her own jewelry.

It wasn’t long before her distinctive vision attracted the notice of organizers at Artistar Milano Jewelry Week, who selected two of her pieces for exhibition in Italy: the “Chocolate” brooch and the “Bat” ring.

Her work was so remarkable that the “Chocolate” brooch was selected for the event’s book cover—an immense honor and a testament to her rising prominence in the global jewelry community.

    Collaborating with Icons

Valentina’s partnerships have further enhanced her illustrious career. A notable collaboration was with Juliana Donald, an American actress and jewelry designer. This partnership, she reflects, challenged her creativity in fresh directions and solidified her position within elite high jewelry circles.

Despite her success, Valentina remains grounded, consistently crediting those who have influenced her journey.

“Professionally, I admire many designers. Their creations captivate my eye, igniting inspiration within me,” she states, mentioning luminaries like Luz Camino, JAR, and Claire Falkenstein.

However, her greatest role model remains her grandmother, whom she affectionately labels her “main reference point” for kindness and integrity.

    Shaping Tomorrow’s Jewelry

Looking forward, Valentina is committed to establishing her own brand and creating pieces that embody her personal vision rather than merely adhering to market trends. “I want to spend the next few years focusing on my creations. I wish to design without being influenced by cost or sales numbers,” she articulates.

Her forthcoming collections are set to blend the intricate mechanical elements that define her work with innovative, modern themes. Each piece, she emphasizes, carries a significant responsibility—one she feels more profoundly now that she is designing under her own name.

“When you create jewelry independently, not under another brand, a unique kind of pressure manifests,” she clarifies. “You become more attuned to the buyer’s perception.”

    A Global Impact

Valentina’s artistry knows no borders, with her work featured in prestigious exhibitions worldwide. From Milan to Moscow, her pieces captivate audiences, intertwining Russian artistic traditions with modern design.

Her accolades are impressive: a third-place finish at the Junwex St. Petersburg International Jewelry Contest, finalist positions at the New Russian Style and Junwex Moscow exhibitions, and multiple honors from international festivals.

Her influence reaches beyond her creations. She aspires to motivate other digital designers, reminding them they need not remain overshadowed by their employers. “There are countless resources available today to showcase your work,” she remarks, hoping her story encourages others to step into the limelight.

In the expansive tapestry of high jewelry, Valentina Podshivalova’s contributions are nothing short of groundbreaking. Her impressive collection of awards and international acclaim illustrates a career characterized by visionary artistry and unwavering commitment.

She has surpassed the conventional limits of jewelry design, producing not just adornments but revolutionary symbols of creativity and courage. As her legacy unfolds, it is clear that her impact extends well beyond her captivating creations, leaving a profound mark on the design landscape and inspiring the next generation of innovators.
