Primark has announced the opening of four new locations in the UK, US, France, and Spain all in one day, representing a significant step in its global expansion strategy.
These stores, which opened last week, are part of a £37 million investment that adds 130,000 square feet of retail space and generates 580 new jobs.
The new outlet at Glasgow Fort marks Primark’s 21st location in Scotland and 195th in the UK. This £7.5 million store is included in the company’s £100 million investment plan for the UK this year, which also encompasses new openings in Bury St Edmunds and Teesside Park along with various site expansions.
In the United States, Primark has inaugurated its 10th location in New York at Queens Center, which is the second store in that borough, bringing its total in the US to 28 stores spread across 11 states.
The renowned high street retailer has made its debut in Tours, France, with the opening of a store in the L’Heure Tranquille shopping center, which has created 100 new jobs.
In Spain, Primark has shifted its Leganés store to a larger venue within the Parquesur shopping center in Madrid, effectively doubling its previous size.
Primark’s chief executive, Paul Marchant, remarked: “This is an exciting day on our growth journey and a first for Primark. Opening four stores across two continents on one day highlights the scale of our global ambition, helping more people to look and feel good for less.”
“With 580 new jobs created, we are confident that these stores not only support local communities but also generate what we refer to as the “Primark halo effect” – the positive impact that increased foot traffic to our stores has on nearby businesses,” he added.
“A heartfelt thank you to all our colleagues and partners who have worked tirelessly to make these stores ready for the bustling festive season.”
As Primark celebrates its 55th anniversary, it currently operates 457 stores in 17 countries.
