Reports suggest that Asos is in discussions with Reliance Retail, a leading retail company in India, to introduce the renowned British fashion brand into the Indian market.
Sources indicate that talks between the two companies have been ongoing for a while, although a final agreement has not been confirmed, as reported by India Retailing.
It is anticipated that India’s largest retailer will showcase Asos products through its department store chain, Centro, as well as online on the fashion and lifestyle platform Ajio, according to one source.
Furthermore, there is speculation that Reliance Retail might consider launching stand-alone Asos stores in India if the partnership moves forward.
One source mentioned, “Reliance is likely to feature Asos products on Ajio and in their stores, but the establishment of a dedicated Asos e-commerce site for India is yet to be determined.”
Asos aims to enhance its sourcing capabilities through the collaboration with Reliance Retail, despite having sourced products from India for several years, reports Retail Week.
A spokesperson from Reliance Retail stated, “We do not comment on media speculation and rumors as a policy. Our company continuously evaluates various opportunities.
“We are committed to making necessary disclosures in accordance with the regulations set by the Securities Exchange Board of India (Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements) Regulations 2015 and our agreements with the stock exchanges.”
Last November, Asos reported a significant near-£300m full-year loss and projected a sales decline of 5% to 15% for the current year, attributing it to the ongoing clearance of old stock.
