10 Tips You Must Know for Tanning to Achieve Flawless and Natural-Looking Bronzed Skin
1. Exfoliating is Essential
Before tanning, ensure your skin is smooth by exfoliating gently. Removing dead skin cells helps in achieving an even and natural-looking tan, reducing the chances of patchiness.
2. Prepare Your Skin
If you wax or shave, do so at least a day before tanning to prevent any irritation. Wait 12 hours after shaving and 24 hours after waxing before applying your tanning product.
3. Keep Your Skin Hydrated
Moisturize your skin to avoid dryness, especially after exfoliation. Focus on areas like hands, elbows, knees, and heels. Moisturizing before tanning helps in creating a smooth base for a natural finish.
4. Avoid Oil-Based Products
Avoid using oil-based products such as moisturizers and body scrubs before tanning. Oil can create a barrier that may cause streaking in your tan.
5. Correct Uneven Color
If you notice any areas getting too dark, gently buff off the excess color with a towel to slow down absorption.
6. New to Fake Tanning?
If you’re a beginner, mix your self-tanner with body lotion for an easier application and less intense color. Adjust the ratio as you gain more experience.
7. Use Gloves
To avoid orange palms, wear latex gloves during tanning. After applying to your body, blend a mix of tanner and lotion on the back of your hands for a natural look.
8. Choose Loose, Dark Clothing
Wear loose, dark clothes while your tan develops to prevent staining.
9. Avoid Water
Avoid water activities for at least eight hours after tanning to allow the product to process fully. The longer you wait, the darker the tan will be.
If needed, soak in a warm bath for 20 minutes and exfoliate to remove excess color.
10. Maintain Your Tan
Keep your tan looking great by moisturizing regularly. After three days, exfoliate to help the tan fade evenly. If you want a darker tan, consider a second application at this point.
